Kole - Kole is a well known reef fish and has an important role in keeping Hawaiʻi’s reefs healthy by feeding on limu and helping prevent overgrowth.

Pākuʻikuʻi - Fewer Pākuʻikuʻi are being seen along the West Hawaiʻi shores. Fishing or taking of this fish is prohibited until December 2026 to help their population recover. It is important to protect pākuʻikuʻi for the current and future generations, support sustainable fishing practices, and honor the concerns and knowledge of our community and kūpuna. 

Kaʻawaloa - An ahupuaʻa in South Kona, Hawaiʻi. It is known as the site where stories of Captain Cook take place and where his monument stands along the shore of Kealakekua Bay.

The Captain Cook Post Office and a well-known hiking trail leading down to Kealakekua Bay are located within Kaʻawaloa. While the area is often referred to as Captain Cook, this design encourages the use of traditional Hawaiian place names to honor and maintain their cultural significance.

Kaʻawaloa is recognized for far more than the history of Captain Cook, it is a place of cultural, historical, and ecological importance.
